PRODUCTS & SERVICES TO WRAP YOUR HOME

Your home's siding is an important part of its construction, providing protection from the elements, and providing style and curb appeal. When it comes to selecting the right siding, there is no “one size fits all” solution. Your choices depend on budget, design, and the skill level of the installer; to make good selections, clients speak with the experts at Cornerstone to gain insight and well-formed opinions.

Like other exterior renovations, new siding can help increase the functional and aesthetic appeal of your home by improving its look and feel.

Why do homeowners replace their siding?

  • It’s Cracked or Loose > If a home’s siding is loose, split, or cracked (as a result of age or damage from serious storms), a careful inspection can help homeowners determine possible next steps.

  • Wood Siding is Faded or Peeling > Wood siding should keep its shape and color for 8-10 years under average conditions. If it requires more frequent maintenance, it may be time to replace it. Some families opt for sun-resistant vinyl siding, fiber cement siding, or steel siding, which are available in a variety of styles and colors; need minimal maintenance; and retain their pigmentation for decades.

  • Wood Siding is Rotting or Warping > If a home’s siding has begun to warp, rot, or become soft, it is time to replace it. Consider an inspection, which will reveal underlying softness, which may be signaling irreparable damage.

  • It’s Growing > Any type of growth such as fungus, mold, algae, or mildew on siding can flag issues, including trapped moisture that may be seeping into interior walls. Although some fungus and mildew is harmless, it’s good to remove it throughout the year and inspect frequent growth areas to ensure protection from water intrusion.

  • Utility Bills are Increasing > If a family’s heating and cooling bills have gone up significantly and inexplicably, it could mean siding has reached the end of its functional life (and/or that new roofing and windows/doors may be in order). Comparing heating and cooling bills with neighbors (if possible), could reveal that a home’s siding is no longer providing proper insulation.
